Complacency – a feeling of smug or uncritical satisfaction with oneself or one’s achievements.
Contentment – a state of happiness and satisfaction
I always felt complacency meant laziness. I guess I should have looked up the definition sooner. As I was preparing to go to work one morning, the Lord reminded me of a scripture found in I Timothy 6: 6-10
6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain[a] we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Lord, teach me how to be content in you. Call to my attention those times when I may begin to feel a sense of satisfaction with my own accomplishments and achievements. Help me to continue to recognize YOU as the source of my life. Amen!!
